- The June Board meeting will be held June 23rd at the WV Prevention Resource Center in Dunbar from 10:30 a.m. - Noon. This is a closed meeting for CTC Board Members and Staff only. A full report will be given at the next Partnership meeting.
- CTC and the Marmet Recreation Committee are teaming up to host a Community Forum/Educational Awareness day at the Marmet City park on Saturday, June 5th. The event will be held 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. with activities being conducted both in and outdoors. Local community-based organizations will display and present information to children and families. CTC will be conducting youth and adult surveys on substance abuse awareness issues. We will be offering adapted Too Good For Drugs lessons to children. Local law enforcement and service professionals will present safety information. Free food, games, prizes, and entertainment will also be including in the day's agenda!
- The June Partnership meeting will be held June 23rd at the WV Prevention Resource Center in Dunbar from Noon - 2:00 p.m. This meeting is free of charge - with a full catered lunch included at no cost. All are welcome to attend! *The Underage Drinking Task Team will meet for approximately 1 hour following the Partnership meeting each month. All are welcome to attend this meeting as well.
- The Regional Family Resource Network meetings for Kanawha County will take place the second Thursday of each month at Noon at the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center in Charleston (brown bag lunch). For more information visit www.regionalfrn.org
- Daymark will be hosting a Tennis Tournament and Raffle at the Charleston Tennis Club on June 19th. Some of the prizes being raffle include (but are not limited to): two season tickets to the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (valued at $400), two vouchers for The Clay Center Presents Sereis (2010-2011 season), weekend lodging get-aways (The Homestead, Silver Creek, and Stonewall Resort), a variety of gift certificates to local restaurants, $50 VISA gift card (courtesy of WesBanco), and MUCH more! - The Charleston Police Department will be hosting a 5k Run/Walk for Special Olympics on the evening of Friday, June 4th at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston. Runners/walkers may mark and meet at 8:00 p.m. at the Magic Island parking lot *under the interstate at Kanawha Blvd. A large crowd of runners is being requested - especially for the final lap of the race when the race conclude with the ceremonial lighting of the Special Olympics Torch. The evening will end with a fireworks display. All are welcome to attend!
- The "Run With a Cop" fundraiser will be hosted by the Charleston Police Department to raise funds for Kanawha County Special Olympics on Saturday, June 12th. This is a flat course and runners and/or walkers are welcome to enter. The race will start and end at the WVU Medical Building on 31st and Virginia Avenue. Regristration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the race starting at 8:00 a.m. There is a $15 entry fee - which includes a t-shirt and trophies in many categories. Law Enforcement Officers may participate in the race free of charge.
The West Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), West Virginia Victim Compensation Fund, and West Virginia State University are pleased to announce West Virginia's second West Virginia State Victim Assistance Academy in July 2010.
West Virginia is one of 36 states developing or presenting State Victim Assistance Academies. The Academies are modeled after the National Victim Assistance Academy; however, they provide state-specific training in victims issues.
BASIC ACADEMY The Academy provides a 40-hour comprehensive, academic, interdisciplinary and interactive training program for crime victims’ services providers, advocates, allied professionals and others who work with crime victims. The curriculum provides a foundation of victim services and principles to enable participants to more effectively help crime victims regain control of their lives.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND Victims services providers, allied professionals such as law enforcement officers, prosecutors, probation and parole officers, volunteers, sexual assault advocates, domestic violence advocates, victim/witness staff, and other victim services providers are eligible to apply to attend the Academy.
LOCATION
This intensive, but rewarding Academy will be held on the campus of West Virginia State University, Institute, West Virginia. The Academy will be held in modern classroom facilities in a comfortable learning environment. Participants are required to stay on-site in university housing unless you are in reasonable distance for commuting.
DATES OF THE ACADEMY The Basic Academy will start on Monday July 19, 2010 and conclude early afternoon on Friday, July 23, 2010. There will be several elective evening activities that students may attend.
